Ryan Fluence is a Senior Digital Specialist based in Washington, DC with over a decade of experience working in diverse forms of digital media including web, social media, graphic design, print, video production, and photography. He graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a major in political science, after attending the Northfield Mount Hermon School. Ryan is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana.
His background and experience of living in the deep south, the west coast, and New England before moving to the nation’s Capital helps guide Ryan’s unique approach to digital strategy. He spent his time at university working with the University of California Office of the President to strategize economic formulas to ensure higher-education affordability alongside Governor Jerry Brown and then, Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom. Thereafter, Ryan launched his own local educational, political campaign before taking it statewide and then ultimately nationwide with the U.S. Student Association, building the campaign’s online presence and managing all forms of digital engagement including websites, email campaigns, on-the-ground political interviews, and social media outreach. He also assisted in the design and production of print media including apparel and advertisements. Additionally, Ryan attends grassroots and major political events, to speak with activists and politicians for digital content collection and has interviewed major corporate executives and elected officials.
Through working at some of America’s largest labor unions from United Food and Commercial Workers, Communications Workers of America, and Service Employees International Union, Ryan has managed digital assets with a large reach and has led on major financial projects from SEO to digital ads. In web development, Ryan specializes in the WordPress platform building custom themes and plugins for interactive websites that provide rich, user-friendly experiences for site visitor and content manager alike. He is also fluent in the technologies comprising front-end development— i.e. HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript— as well as PHP.
As a senior digital strategist, Ryan loves to learn about new tools to expand his expertise and is as excited about the nuances of proper use of artificial intelligence in digital content creation as he is about typography and modern JavaScript.
